Jane Cliff, School Choice Adviser from Milton Keynes Parent Partnership Service, talked to us about her role and how she can help Grandparents. Jane told us that it's a government requirement that all Local Authorities have a Choice Adviser.
The reasons for this are that:
- Research shows that parents/carers do not engage in the transition process from Primary School to Secondary School.
- Children are at risk of slipping through the net and therefore not having an appropriate school place allocated.
Jane's role is to:
- Help with parents/carers who may struggle with the admissions system.
- Help parents/carers to make informed and realistic preferences.
She is also able to give advice on:
- Special Educational Needs
- Times of the school day and term times
- School uniform policy
