Past News & Events > Conference on Contact Issues for Children in Family and Friends - 17th February 2011
A couple of us attended this event in London hosted by FRG, which was very well supported by both ‘Professionals’ and Kinship carers. There were a number of speakers. The most memorable were a brother and sister who told of their experience of having contact with their mother who was in prison. Two very brave young people.
Also of note was a Grandmother who made contact work for her Granddaughter and Daughter. Her daughter, who had a mental illness, went into hospital when her daughter was only a couple of weeks old. Despite being told by ‘professionals’ that she should not bring her granddaughter into visit, the grandmother took no notice.
She knew it was the best thing, both for her daughter and granddaughter. It told of the struggle of emotions, of being pulled between her daughter and granddaughter. It was an incredibly powerful story.
We will try to see if she can come and speak to our group.
